Eddy Razzano and Chris Heintz join forces to manufacture a ready-to-fly low-wing ULM
OFFICIAL JOINT ANNOUNCEMENT
Two leaders in the ULM and kitplane industry have announced plans to join forces to manufacture a ready-to-fly low-wing all-metal ULM sportplane for the European market. Touted as the perfect combination of aeronautical and manufacturing experience and know-how, the joint effort will soon see one of Zenair’s most popular aircraft manufactured entirely in Italy by ICP – manufacturer of the very successful Savannah high-wing aircraft design.
Zenair’s low-wing kitplane design by Chris Heintz is known and appreciated globally, but currently only available in kit form from its manufacturer. The sporty cross-country aircraft gets top ratings for its passenger comfort, remarkable visibility and economy as a touring sport plane. Hundreds of these kit-built aircraft are already flying worldwide; ICP plans to make the factory-built version available to pilots in Europe who want to fly rather than to build. ICP has been working with Chris Heintz and Zenair engineers since early 2010 to adapt the design to ICP’s world-class manufacturing techniques and procedures; work on a pre-production prototype is already well underway with production models set to deliver in early 2012. The official debut for the ICP-built ready-to-fly Heintz-designed aircraft is planned for Aero-Friedrichshafen (April 18-24). In a joint statement released today (01/15/2012) by the founders of both companies, Chris Heintz and Eddy Razzano expressed confidence in the new collaboration: “ICP’s CNC manufacturing capabilities will bring an affordable new aircraft to the European market” said Mr. Razzano;“ "I am very pleased that this joint effort will once again allow the sale of a factory-built Zenair design here and that ULM pilots will continue to enjoy this great aircraft for many years” added Mr. Heintz.
The new design, based on the popular CH 650 low-wing cross-country cruiser, will be optimized for European ULM regulations - including Germany’s LTF-UL standards - and ICP’s efficient production capacities. Roomy side-by-side seating with the trademark “bubble canopy” offering sailplane-like 360 degree visibility; powered by Rotax. The classic all-metal design is ideal for individual and club ownership as well as for flying schools. Projected starting price for a state-of-the-art ICP-built Zenair is under 60,000 Euros.
